It is a time bomb, the moment less expected and you'll have a carnage but if you don't believe us go ahead and see what happens.

yeah I can put a pbass in a tank full of minnows and take pics and say "look at my peaceful pbass coexisting with all these minnows." I can post the pics on MFK write blogs about how wrong everybody is about pbass...and the whole time I'm doing this the pbass is committing heinous acts of minnow genocide in the tank. It's the same with P's. People will claim all sort of things, and LFS are short on space so they drop predators into tanks together, but listen to people that have actually kept the fish for years and they'll tell you that Piranhas kill other fish. Slowly. They start with the tail and fins and one day you come home and your gar is a lump of cold flesh and bone on the bottom of the tank.

It's your call though. I sure as hell tried to cohab my P with everything I could find. They're all feeders to him though.

i aggree with everyones opinion
if the op still thinks it can be done try it out it your money and your fish

but i'll suggest posting this in the gar lounge and see what they say

as soon as that gar gets a nice nip on the anal fin and he leaks a little it will just slowly progress to him being a meal. you might get away with a well armored cat but i would still be weary about that. sure buy it and try, im sure your piranhas will agree

I tried putting in other fish with my Ps as well and like everyone else is saying it ends given enough time. I started with ten giant danios in my tank and a year later there's only three. There was four last week but obviously the reds decided it was time to take another. While it may happen right away or it might even last years from every experience I've ever read eventually the other fish gets eaten.

I mean christ man they kill and eat each other for gods sake!!! What other species randomly goes on killing sprees on themselves!!!

well the fish store has them in the same tank and they do fine
The only fish I have been successful with RBP's is a Common Pleco. But there is plenty of hiding spots, the back and sides are painted black and I feed my RBP's pellets daily.
Are you sure they are not pacus? Look very similar to RBP's when juvenile.

This is also not a good argument since a lot of LFS do very ignorant things with fish. Don't always listen to or follow what a LFS says just because they sell fish.

ya well people with hiv have unprotected sex with other people and there fine for a while too.... but we all know what happens next...

also a gar will outgrow a 55g pretty fast if he does survive living with the p's or the p's survive living with him, either way its a bad idea.

Human randomly kill each other over a course of period

It's pacus. I go to the same LFS as him. 2 pacus, 2 gar, 1 huge oscar, and 2 ~11" Plecos. All in a 55g. All giant.

Don't do it Ryan.
