Gar and tankmates - what has and hasn't worked for you, and why

i have had a gar and my clown knife live in peace bolth are 12 inch plus-but when my silver got bigger i was forced to remove my gar -the gar and silver r bolth top swimmers and they really didnt get along
 
I have 1 florida with a pleco
I know I know they shouldnt be together but the gar attacks the pleco and wont let it go anywere near him so I dont see a problem

plecos and gars are a bad combi. as i'm sure solomon has told you. the pleco might suck the slimecoat off the gar on any given day. and more likely than not, this would be fatal.

Well I'm trying spotted gar w/ a pair of lima shovelnose catfish. They are all about 4-5 inches.

They were $20 each. Seems like my gar likes them though... He like to swim with them. I think it's because they are similar in size, shape, and color.
 
i had a long nose gar with 5 bichirs and after 3 days i woke up to find that the gar was murderd over night :( they were still picking at him when i woke up
 
bichirs turn on a gar??
wow my bichirs have always been really calm...
held thier own in a fight but never real aggressive( but ive only had 4)
