Gar behavior

Is it normal for gars to be laying at the bottom sometimes?
I have seen my spotted gar a few times laying at the bottom hangin out with my bichirs..when i go near the tank,it will go then go to the surface.
Should i be worried?is it also bad if there is too much water movement/current from my filter?

its normal, gars are stalkers in the wild, so they spend a lot of time at the bottom.

its ok to have somewhat of a current, as long as he is not getting pushed around.

i was (more or less) joking around, but the question does come up a lot...AND we do have the forum, but a simple glance through the threads before posting a new one can come in handy too.
