Hi guys, I just recently purchased a 46+(looks bigger than all other 46 bowfronts) Gallon bowfront tank and have 2 small LMB, 2 Bluegill and a Gar that is about 9". He doesnt eat during the day whenever I put missouri minnows in the tank. The bass tear the minnows up but the gar will just nip at them and cruise around. He just cruises around the top of the tank and lays next to the heater. Are they nocturnal hunters?

PS I will be releasing all the fish once they get to big for the tank...the gar can swim and turn with ease..

releasing fish into the wild isnt a good idea. even if they were caught there and he will outgrow that tank in no time at all. they sometimes do hunt at night, but will usually eat food anytime its available.

its just weird during the day he just sits at the top but now he kinda swims around the bottom aswell. i know in the wild they just hangout on top of the water but he just doesnt seem that active

gar are not a real active fish. are your bass eating all the feeders before the gar can get to them? how long has ne been in the tank?

i just bought him a 90G today, he seems to be a lot more active, swimming around eating air ETC.....the bas is just chilling on the bottom

Has he started to eat regularly yet. Ive never had a problem with mine. He eats like crazy.
