No offense but that description makes the book sound less appealing to me. I'd love a book just loaded on information about all seven species of gar. River Monsters in book form just sounds boring to me, especially since I can buy gator gars online while he is crossing the country to bag one.

my two cents. :D

Well some of us that have worked with Gars for many a moon find such a book refreshing. Especially since we can relate on many levels to the Author. We do tend to spend a lot of time and effort crossing the country seeking the fish and the mysteries of them rather than just keeping them in a glass box. We also know much about the Conservation history (Or lack there of) and find the Human / Gar interactions as interesting and as important as knowing what they eat or how they poop. Science, Psychology and culture are all important parts to the puzzle of Gar conservation and Management. Mr. Spitzer is an excellent writer in such reGARds. He is also a fellow certifiably insane Garnut that I personally respect much....

But thats My 2 cents (and a nickle) :D

This book is great.. A definite recommendation to those really interested in gar.

Only received it about an Hour and a half ago and can't put it down. It will definitely be one of those books I'll just read over and over and never get tired of (Much like Stephen Spottes..Candiru) Has a great chapter titled "Frankenfish" which I all too very much understand :)....

All I can say is it is an excellent book on gar and is one I'm going to advocate for..

Author says it very well "This book is not a nature book, nor is it a fishing book, or even a study. If anything, it's a creative nonfiction montage of different voices with varying tones, all grounded in the central theme of my relationship with gar- which I use to reflect our relationship with gar."

The work is genius...
