"some do and some don't" - i definitely agree. the initial statement you made was stated as a general trend, which is not necessarily true...that's what i was responding to.
thanks for posting the pics, good-looking specimens and definitely good examples of pattern change over development. if there is any rule, it's that Florida and spotted gar patterns are highly variable among individuals!--
