Well the title prety much says it all. What is a healthy feeding schedule for gars. Also, when should I feed them.

Thanks!

I feed mine every 2-3 days but they all over 20". If is a juvinile, I would do every day

That sounds prety good. Thanks! But does that feeding schedule engourage greater lengh or width in general. I prefer long slim specimens to the stout shorter ones. And also to clarify my original post, the in the last sentence when I said When should I feed them, I ment what time of day. Im a little scatter brained today, but again, thanks!

i have a florida gar at 8 inches right now and i just feed once a day. you can feed twice a day if you would like but i prefer once a day, so they have longer to digest the food. i like to feed my fish when i come home at night, some people feed in the morning, depends on you.

i have an 11 inch gar he gets feed once a week on friday as much as hell eat wich is like 4 feeders then 1 or 2 on tuesday or wednesday i have a breeder tank for goldfish i usually keep on hand and add meds to so as not to introduce bacteria into my tank ill buy out goldfish from petsmart once a month about 8 bucks that gets me about 30 feeders i also feed market shrimp but only cichlids seem to go for that he mainly sticks to live foods

thanks for the info everyone! I will probobly feed every day when they are small and wednesdays and saturdays when they are larger:)

You should skip feeding on the days you do water changes.

:grinno:you should do the feedings the same day before the water changes so you can vacuum any uneaten food that may be left by your fish and not cloud your water :D

no. and no.

doing this with gars greatly increases the risk of puking up the food which can cause enough stress to kill the gar and/or throw off the water parameters enough to crash the system and...kill the gar.

if you are going to feed on the day of a water change, do it AFTER the water change, it's never advisable to do it beforehand.--
