doing this with gars greatly increases the risk of puking up the food which can cause enough stress to kill the gar and/or throw off the water parameters enough to crash the system and...kill the gar.

if you are going to feed on the day of a water change, do it AFTER the water change, it's never advisable to do it beforehand.--

To add to this thread, if I may, what are the best foods for your gar?

Mine fortunately is not very picky at all... he eats market shrimp, pellets, live, imitation crab meat... haven't found much he will not eat. Unfortunately, what are suppose to be his tank mates, also turn into food for him occasionally... hahahaha
