spotted and florida are about the same size captive maxing out around 2-2.5'. the shortnose tend to be smaller but a little tougher to keep and are more prone to injury. spotted and florida are youre best bet in captivity. also there are soon to be tropics available. they say they are even more easily kept and are supposed to be excellent tank fish. they too stay around the 2' mark in captivity. there is a sticky at the top of the gar forum. check it out if you want.
i think that is directed at me? my avatar is my 16" florida gar. most that i have seen are lighter in color than him, but he is a florida non the less. they are a great fish to keep! thanks!
I have a Florida Gar in a 150 with my Red Devil and Dovii and have to toss in at least a dozen feeders at a time just so my Gar will get at least one or two feeders. Even if I load their mouths with nighcrawlers they still try to hog all of the feeders. They are such pigs!
