I need help!!! Over the summer I will be getting a 4 inch gator gar. I need to know care and stats!!! I have been doing research and have found NOTHING, I even posted a question on yahoo answers (No good responses). I need expert advice NOW!!!

6 feet, need at least 5000 gallons...

why do u need a 5000 gal tank for a 6 ft gator? lol. here's the 1000 gal per foot again.. a 800 gal tank will be fine unless you are going to add other monsters to your tank.

try doing some research here or on aquaticpredators.com. there are tonnes of info waiting to be read

Huh? For a 5' fish? Figure 15x5x3, that's a hell of a lot more than 800 gallons. Or a pond with similar dimensions, maybe 10' diameter if it's a round pond, minimum.

I suggest you do more research before getting the gator gar. It sounds like your about to do a common no no by getting the fish before you know anything about what your getting yourself into. As far as I'm concerned this is not an aquarium fish unless you can foot the bill for some very expensive accommodations and care. Please don't buy the fish just so you can tell your friends "I have an ALLIGATOR gar". If you say I plan on getting a tank for it in a few months or whatever after you already have the fish your going to get flamed pretty hard.

Simple rule and steps to fish keeping:

1) Research - Know what your getting and whats involved in keeping it
2) Aquarium - Get what the fish will need to be in for a permanent home even if it needs a grow out first
3) Buy the fish.

good advice, other than xanders and maybe one other, the rest of the posts in this thread are garbage. probably including the first post.

if you don't know anything about alligator gars and "haven't been able to find ANYTHING anywhere" yet, then you're not ready for one of those fish by any means. do some "research" on the internet and you should find plenty of info about these fish. look at the gar ID resources in the pinned section.
start with a Florida/spotted gar, work with that for a year or two and then see if you can handle a gator. good luck--

people r saying i need to do research. Umm... did you even read the top box that CLEARLY STATES

"I need to know care and stats!!! I have been doing research and have found NOTHING, I even posted a question on yahoo answers (No good responses). I need expert advice NOW!!! "

So, I've been trying to research but all I find is info on fishing. If you are not gonna post info on care than plase don't post here anaway. And the people who said I'm gonna do it in a short amount of time and it will be bad for the fish. I'M GETTING IT IN JUNE!!!!!!!!! THAT IS LIKE OVER 3 MONTHS FROM NOT!!!
