that wasn't really what i was asking (guess i worded that a little differently than i thought), i was wondering what your explanation was as to why each fish was the species you ID'd it as...i.e...why did you say longnose for the first one and so on and so forth? richard had asked that people explain their answers (i believe xander did in his answer) --
--solomon

my reasoning:
Fish 1: Osseus, slender body, long narrow snout. and color/pattern of an average juvi Longnose.

Fish 2 and 3: Both look like Platyrhincus or Oculatus. But since you and Richard can ID a gar almost reguardless of size i just guessed not knowing which is which. (i havent had enough personal experience with each species to tell most juvi's apart.)

Fish 4: Platostomus, i did some research and went to Primitivefishes.com and this one looks very similar to most of the shortnoses there. almost the same coloration, broadness and length of snout look to be about the same.

or i could be completely wrong and be sounding really stupid right now.
but hopefully not.

don't worry man, was just curious as to why you guessed what you did...good comparison and thought process for ID'ing the fishes given just a single photo for each...regardless of the correct answers, good guesses--

1. Osseus
2. Oculatus
3. Oculatus
4. Oculatus

This shows well some of the variations within the spot gar.. Osseus was actually the same fish Solomon post earlier....
