My LFS had these,i was told to watch out for the female as they grow larger than the males and tend to eat the males. Also they can be quite aggressive towards tankmates. They also need to be fed several times a day.:headbang2

Definitely a pike-characin head. I lived around florida, spotted, and alligator gar; they have a distinct gar head. Anyone selling fish should be able to properly recognize at least that. In addition to poor recognition skills, this guy seems like a bad salesman too! Aren't you glad you asked a bunch of know-it-all fish geeks (meant as a compliment to all of us here!)?

I have a pair, yes the internet says they only eat live but with a weeks starving mine eat market shrimp. Yes the female may eat the male but only when full grown 8" and 4-5" respectively and this can be sorted by feeding more and they eat a lot!! they alsoscrap when mating my female always has a few scars in the morning. The babies are born at about 0.5" and are cannibalistic from the get go and the parents wont turn down a baby as a meal. Self regulating populations only wish guppies would do that.
