Hello Mr.Polypterus.. same question for you. Can you advise why it would be an interesting one at that? I know zero about gars.

After reading and looking at a few pics I came to a conclusion it could be of the two you suggested as those are pretty common correct? But I wanted to get more feedback from the experts.

Thanks

It is just interesting that it has a nice contrasting pattern, not really anything unusual for one, or not noted before, it is just a very nice one. It is definitely a Florida / spotted and not one of the other Lepisosteus...

the spotted or non-spotted underbelly occurs pretty frequently in this type of gar...so that's not necessarily anything out of the ordinary. the pattern itself is interesting in that it's pretty bold (then again it appears to be in a somewhat dark environment). either way, good looking specimen, and definitely a Florida/spotted, with high likelihood that it's a Florida gar--

Thanks all for the response.

Went by there today and it was gone. Probably the dude looking at it when I took the picture bought it.

No biggy Joey, those are the most common and cheapest true gars to find. That was a pretty good price for one though. They usually go for around 20-60 bucks around our neck of the woods.
