I finally got around to taking some pics of the gars in the pond. There are 3 shortnose gars 13-19" each, and one spotted gar probably around 12-13". They are looking very good in my opinion, and their behavior has changed considerably from being in an aquarium.

They've basically stopped feeding at this point, as water temp is hovering between 60F and 65F. I am considering removing them from the pond in the next couple weeks to make moving them to a new house easier (assuming we end up moving in the next couple months).

It's about time to pull the pond plants out, as they're really starting to deteriorate with the cold weather. There are also about 75 or so feeder comets left from the last feeding that I did. Usually those guys wouldn't last 12 hours in the pond, they've been in there about 3 or 4 weeks now...

Anywho, hears what you guys really want, pics! (Sorry most of them aren't that great, its hard to photograph gars in a 3' deep pond under cover of plants and all that jazz...) :p

Thanks... Where did you get those gar?

The shortnose I got from a former member who used to live in Evansville, IN. The spotted gar I got from E_americanus.

they can live in that cold water?

Yep, the shortnose at least are native to this area, and I believe the spotted can tolerate the winters here as well. They could stay out all winter if I wanted to leave them, but I may be moving in a few months, so I'm thinking about bringing them in to make the move easier.

very nice!!

Thanks! Maybe when I pull out all the plants I'll be able to get some nice clear pics of all 4 gar for everyone.

I am pretty sure there are spotted gars wild hear, I don't know what your winters are like there, if they are milder then should be fine
