Gar in pond pics (load warning!)

Thanks. I just pulled all of the floating hyacinth out of the pond. It was really starting to die off with the cold weather, and we hit upper 20's (F) last night, so most of them really would have started to do badly. There are still some hyacinth and other plants in the bog filter, but I will be removing those during the week or next weekend.

I currently have 2 koi about 7" and 5" long, and the 4 gar, which the 3 shortnose look to all be over 20" now. The 1 spotted gar looks to be about 15-16". That would mean they've all grown at least 3" each since I put them in the pond, just 3 months ago.

I checked the thermometer yesterday after I removed the plants, and it was sitting at about 54F. With the cold front that's come in, I'm expecting it to drop down below 50F within the next week or so.

The gars activity level has definitely dropped off. They are pretty much just hanging out on the bottom of the pond, and only move to come to the surface for a breath. I had to poke them with a long skinny stick just to get them to move, and they did so very slowly and only moved a couple of inches. Its amazing how temperature can alter behavior...

Oh, and there are still about 50 minnows (Fatheads), and maybe 30 feeder comets from the last time I tossed them in. The minnows are 1-2" in length, and the comes are 1-1.5" in length. There are also some minnows in the bog filter, which I see swimming between plants every now and then. Hopefully they will either survive in the bog filter, or make it down into the pond and survive there.
