Gar n' Pike?

i have them in an outdoor pond. but not cold cold around 60-70F , am guessing you mean like mountainess lakes and pond cold.

They prefer water in the fifties or less here in New York, and water temperatures around eighty can kill them.

Well I don't know about the northern pikes. But I have a spotted gar and venny pike about the same size and they couldn't be happier. Never even seen any intent in a scuffle.

You are talking about a crenicichla, I think, and he is talking about an esox.

Lucky, my 2 Vennys where fine w/ my gar.. until a few weeks ago.. then they went nutterz and started trying to rip their fins off. the Vennys went to the lfs.. and my planted tank got some nifty new shrimp.

in what I know: gator gar grow from 3'' to 3' in about 2 years( maybe less), a 3' northern pike is about ............................... 20 years old(maybe more).

I'm pretty sure Northern Pike grow pretty quickly in the first few years of their lives, just like most large fish. A twenty year old pike is a pretty rare thing, but 3' ones are not so rare. 10 years is more average although they can reach over 20 years. Your comment is a little misleading I think.

Sorry, do not mean to nit pick. My family is sort of pike obsessed when it comes to fishing, so I've built up a pretty good Esox fact sheet in my mind.
