I would get a few senegal bichirs for the tank. They don't get huge but woud spice up the bottom life of the tank.

I saw some Polypterus Senegalus at the LFS tonight. They are only about 5" though. Would the gar (10") try to eat them?

There were 3 at the store. Should I get all 3?

What about african brown knife as tankmates?

i have 6"+ tsns with a 12" florida and it looks at them really hard...it eats smaller bullheads i don't have any bichirs so i can't help there...

i wouldnt and i would put in some senegal bichir and a tsn it would be a sweet tank

I have two gar 14 and 12 in. in with a 5 incher or so senegal and they don't bother him. He swims all over the tank, the gars don't really mess with any of the other fish. Their pretty mellow unless you have like 2-3 in. fish with them in my case at lleastr.

Three would be sweet.

Can I add another florida gar?

I have two in the 125, with a 4 foot tank, I'm not sure about adding two though, might seem a little crunched lengthwise. But it could work if you wanted to.

Thank you for the replies. I don't, however, understand why a TSN would be recommended for a 4' tank.

My only hesitation now in adding the bichir is that I have some areas of my tank around the HOB filter that are not covered and I'm afraid I would lose the fish.

I won't add another gar.

just use some water prof maturial to cover the open spots i use teflon...tsn and bichirs i don't addvise and unless you want a bigger tank tsns wouldn't work in the current tank...another gar wouldn't be to bad...
