someone said that catsfish make good tankmates for gars? if not the bichir would be a wise choice. is there a size comparison of when the bichir should be added to avoid being eaten or vice versa?

the best way would be to use common sense, and keep a watchful eye when it comes to bichirs boderlining being small enough to be eaten.

think ive decided on a 10x4x2.5 for 3 longnose and 4 florida gars. maybe ill get a picture like your avvy too. might just want it to be gars.

you've been given all the info the thread asked for, what else do you need to know?

more than enough space, but should make for an impressive tank if that is the size you go with. good luck!--

thank you. i think i will like this tank better than the stingray setup i was going to do. i like the idea of having overall tank movement, and the fact that the cost of feeding gar wont be at least 5 g's a year..... ive always liked gar, just wish i could put one in my tank, but my swordtails and cory's would be doomed lol.

ill have to concern myself with trying to acquire them when the time comes :) i hear that fellow members on here are good suppliers as well. at least ive read articles that ppl have gotten gar from fellow MFK members.

big piece of driftwood good idea for the tank or just nice and open?

either is fine on conditions. big dw just ensure that it is not too obstructing and still leaves lots of swimming space. nice and open try and have some floating plants to provide some security. i'd go with nice and open thou. whichever ways, it'd be a huge impressive tank:cool:

for florida gars, your lfs or vendors here. tropical gars try mike @ H20 aquatics. shortnose and longnose gars frequent the market during certain months
