in settin up a tank, dont know the gallonage but its 60"x18"x24"

and i know that no gar gets small enuff to live in there for life, but i was wonderin how fast a spooted gar grows?1" a month? when do they slow down?

just winderin cuz i have always liked gars, but have never been fond of those charchins that just look like gars

Gars are like people, they all grow at different rates. I have had two of my Gars grow 3" in one year, the third only grew 1/2" in six months. Have had three Gars in my old set up that only grew 1" in 3 years, and they were not crowded in the tank in any way and ate very well. When they are very small thier growth rate seems like over night they get large, but once they reach around 12" or so they seem to me to have a slower growth rate. I measure my Gars once a month as part of health evaluation along with water quality and food intake, and inwinter I have my tanks at lower temp so thier food consumption and growth slowes down.
