The pet store I got him at fed him gold fish. It’s hard because he’s blind. The pet store I got got him at, put him in a tank with angel fish and they beat him up, tore up all his fins and took his eyes.
I plan on donating him to Ohio fish rescue. These guys are if you ever have fish that are to big or fish that get 4 feet long. Or just to save a life from the pet store. These guys are doing a great thing.
He won’t get that big. 24” maybe. Feeding him goldfish here and there isn’t the end of the world. They just have very little to no dietary benefit. Just like Girl Scout cookies, but I’m still eating them.
If he can find a moving goldfish, you’ll be able to get him to eat pellets and other prepared foods. Clearly he’s using other senses.
He really has no eyes. Straight blind. He feels vibration in the water so he can feel me walking around my room. Sometimes when I drop something like the remote for the tv he feels the vibrations and gets startled by the vibration. I have old wood floors so he feels everything. Sometime when I want to pet him I make ripples on the water surface very gently and he finds my finger. It’s pretty cool but sad also.
The 1st pic was when I 1st got him as you can tell he’s pretty beat up for a blurry picture.
The other pictures you can literally see his eye socket.
Most people keep Florida’s in as little as a 6/7’x2’ footprint for years and years. Maybe forever. So that’s like. 150-220gal.
Depending on tank mates, a 200 gal should last his whole life.
He’s pretty. Kind of looks dark red
