behind my iMac.... Southampton UK.
ive been searching for a good reliable source for so long, i guess there just isnt one? the best anyone seems to be able to do is the odd six fish every now and then and even still the id's are questionable at best... ive been lookin for cubans, trops and florida/spotteds bt if i saw em would prop do my best to home any gars other than more gators, as one they are rare, and second if i cant figure stopping there backs breaking im not sure anyone else would put in as much effort, by the point they are offered for sale in the uk, they are already doomed in a sense.... i would do my best thousands wouldn't.... anyone by chance seen or know of any for sale in the uk or eu??

hi mate paddock farm water gardens regularly get in diferant types of gars except gators ,they had florida spotted in last week and a couple of cuban last month , only problem is they are in darlington (north east england) but maybe give them a ring not shure if they deliver or not , speak to mark in aquatics on 01325 378286 (dont bother e-mailing them as they dont answer e-mails)

hope this helps you and ill keep eye out for any others

hmm that is quite a drive.... i really hope they deliver... But it is up by dixons and i want to get his polys, flagtail n redtail payara and theres more polys and a small sp/fl someone else is selling up that way i know of too...:naughty: i see a plan forming.... :D

you plan too much mate :D j/k

Gar are very seasonal in availability as a general rule... I'm not sure if it has been asked but is there any common season in the UK where a small flood of these fish come in? Any pattern to their availability by species?

Trying to pin these questions may be the answer for you Erm on when to shop and when to look and approach for special order...

I know that even here in the US (Where they are native or darn close to being) there is a clear window of availability for different species and this is almost like clockwork year after year.

:cry::cry: ok cubans are not looking hopeful, it was over a year ago and they came from a german wholesaler who no longer stocks them. neither is anything except fl/sp's but still gars so, however few things came up in conversation, high likley hood of africans aros coming in soon! and for a reasonable price!
possibility of pima's coming through some time over the summer... time to seriously look at building this pond i feel thats next project soon as this upgrade is done!

on the deffinately possitive side, Mark who i spoke to is a really nice guy. we had a good chat nd he understands exactly the difficults i have looking for the rarer primitive fishes in the uk. he promised to keep my num and call me if he spots any thing id be interested in.... for the first time, i actually beleave him ive had this said so much buy lfs and ive know them to get the stock i asked about through with no contact only for me to find out a week to late....
