Gar swimming at glass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
nice glad to hear you removed it. I'd treat the tank if I were you for a few days just to make sure that there aren't any more parasites in the tank. I don't know how that specific parasite life cycle works but thats just what I'd do.

Their life cycle is 30-100 days. The lay up to 2000 eggs on wood or plants, but cannot lay eggs in temperatures above 60*F. I should be alright but I went ahead and treated the tank after his bath to try and kill it anyways. All they had at the store was api general cure for parasites so that's what I used.

All of my gars have swam into the glass, sometimes for a day, sometimes for a couple weeks. But eventually they have all stopped. Gars are smart, and look for an exit out of the tank, they'll jump out.

when the gars swim in the glass it's usually cause the water is bad, can you test your parameters?

I tested it again yesterday and my ammonia, nitrite and nitrate were all at 0.25 ppm. I'm working on getting it down. I'm gonna do a water change today. He tries to swim behind my airline tubing and always gets halfway stuck. It's weird lol

think you need to get your ammonia and nitrites down to 0. also, any tank mates noticeably stressing it out? or plecos?
