So I woke up today to find my gar with his tail discolored and not looking the same. I got some pictures to show, please help, I do not want to loose him.

Only time ive ever noticed discoloration like this in gar is when i had them break their backs. Is he still using his tail to swim or just his front flippers? I had this happen to a 4" longnose and a 14" florida on two different occasions. Both fish did not pull through and i treated them with pimafix/melafix. They held on for weeks without eating before letting go. Maybe he rocketed into the lids weird? Thats what my small one did. The larger florida was my fault from using a net that was too small for him many years ago. Neway i hope his spine is not broken and he pulls through for u. Very nice pattern on that guy

Thanks. From what i can see he does not get picked on by anybody and he is a good eater. He is about 5" long right now. He might have rocketed into the side of the tank, I do not know. How would I know if he broke his back. He does not look much different then his other gar tank mate.

Hmm..im waiting for someone else with more knowledge to chime in lol...but when mine broke their backs it was more mid spine but you could clearly tell they were paralized and could not move their back fins past the break. Yours looks pretty far back in the tail so he may be alrite. Always a good sign hes still eating

This morning all of his finnage in the area is gone and a white puffy fungus has grown. When I get home from my short day at work, I will need to give him a salt dip. As of now, that is the only thing I can think of to do, aside from buying fish meds, but I never know what one to get anyways.
