hi ya all what fish make good tankmates for florida/spotted gar and how large a tank do you think i would need as i have seen lots of different sizes quoted cheers

anything that the gar cant fit in its mouth, lol. have a look at my sig, thats what ive got in with my gar for now. once i get my bigger tank im thinking about getting a arowana and a ray, i think that would look pritty cool. until my gar gets HUGE that is anyway.
a 6x2x2 tank should be ok for a while, but i would go for one about 8x3x2/3, just for the extra width really..

.I have a 22" spotted gar in a tank with a silver aro, 2 clarias, a clown knife and a tiger shovelnose cat. They seem to tolerate one another very well.
is it ok to mix my spotted gar and 2 juvenile peacock bass?those peacocks are growing fast...i house dem in a 3ft tank

that all depends mate, how big is your gar now? and how big are p/bass?
if the size difference is too big the gar might mistake them for food.

I had a 16" gar and a 18" marble catfish together that were the best of buddies. They would actually dance together. The catfish would swim and the gar would swim around his body while that catfish was swimming one of the neatest things I ever saw.
