i honestly don't know. around here these are just called "spotted gars". the markings on the gar/s in your photos are definitely different, but i have no idea how to distinguish one type from the other.

Pattern can mean very little when IDing a gar...they're extremely variable when it comes to color and pattern. That is indeed a Florida/Spotted.

Nice fish! LP- shortnose usually lack spots on top of the snout, which Pedro's fish has.

agreed. Florida/Spotted gar can vary greatly in pattern.
