just wanted some opinions on this mix.

my armatus is about 18 inches. i also have 3 motoros all in a 450 gal.

if i get about a 24 inch gar, do u think they will be ok?

my armatus likes to intimidate tankmates. would a gar stand his ground or run like a little girl?

Put a 24 inch Gator in there... You can be assured that it will not "run like a little girl".. You may be out of an armatus and a few motoros though..

shorter answer = no. :)

whats the nutritional value of a tetra? j/k!

i wouldnt do it either. the growth rate of the armatus will be dwarfed by the gator gar and they tend to be very aggressive towards tankmates.

i'd try another species of gar.
try to get one of the less skittish kinds.
my old spotted was regularly attacked by my tilapia but didnt really bother.
but then again, its a tilapia not an armatus. :)

i've mixed my spotted gars(15" &12") with my 7" red tail payara. the 12" left him alone, but the 15" would shred him

too much of a gamble either the gar or armatus is gonna get messed up unless you got lucky and they lived peacefully

If any fish gets messed up it will be the Armatus and maybe motoros. Gar will weather both of those out..An Armatus can not harm a gar larger than it's self.. Issue is none of these fish are very compatible. A gar of any species generally will cause issue with any silvery fish smaller than it's self and in some cases larger. They can not help themselves but to take a wack at them.

An Armatus is nothing but a big gizzard shad to them. Given the sensitive nature of Hydrolycus and the sensitivity of them to bacterial and fungal issues it would just be a bad idea to risk the fish for no reason.
