Gar with Pacus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Today i went to a place that house a very big 30.000gallon underground aquarium that house three 37inch pacus and two 46inch aligator gars. The pacus were very large and i dont think the normal 210gallon aquarium pacu will grow that large.

That's still a home aquarium. The reason a fish won't grow to their full pontential is because you're stunting them- which only leads to a shorter life span and usually a death caused by disease.

Pacus can grow to 4 feet, and can grow very wide. Please don't keep this fish if you don't have the 2,000-10,000 gallon aquarium it needs.

Will there be fights?

You should have no problem ever with the Pacu against the Gar. As long as the Gar is not too much bigger than the Pacu you should not have any problem,

i do realize this post is like almost 7 years old and yet I just have to say that my well fed RBPacus eventually overtook and ate my gar. I think it was territorial. =(

Sorry for your loss, but I'm not the least bit surprised that the pacus ate your gar considering that pacus are eating machines after all.

I have a pacu pond and a gar pond. Don't think I'll ever mix them. Pacus are mad! And I don't understand why people feed live to their pacus. I feed them pallets and the way I see them swim, they'll probably hurt my gars more then my gars will ever hurt them. Pacus if kept in numbers will gang up as packs, like wolves. They will bite when they feel like it. Gars on the other hand are chilling fishes. So I don't recommend.
