Gar with rainbow snakehead

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The cabinet I put my tank on is made of wood and around 70 cm wide. Bottom is shelving and I'm pretty sure it can't hold the weight of a 200x70x60 tank as that was my original intention

You could reinforce it? Otherwise it might not be the fish for you

Do not mix the channa with the gar as they will end up food they are much smaller then he gar full grown

The fish is around 10 cm long right now and I'm sure it will take a very long time for it to grow to a huge size..
Final decision of the tank size is 200x 60 x50.
What other fishes that could go well with the gar?

I also have 2 rainbow snakeheads, and i love them!!!!! They live nicely with 3 of my florida gars, 4 ornate bichirs, 3 rope fish and 3 yellow eels.
They are supposed to be one of the less aggressive snakeheads and only get about 8 inches long so you won't have to worry about them killing your other fish lol.

Well lets see
The gars are 8"-6"
Ornate bichirs 10"-8"
Rope fish are 14"
Rainbow snakeheads are 4"

I know none of them are full grown yet but as everything stands right now everyone gets alone.
So it may be true that they may end up being a snack for a full size gar but if your gar is small now and can live with a rainbow snakehead why not, you'll be putting the gar in a bigger tank later any way.
That's just my opinion though

its two species of fish that are risky to keep together, another thing to bear in mind is buying fish that are too big for the tank as many planned extensions dont happen

Nice looking fish. A bigger tank is definitely in order. That fish appears to be a FLG to me.
