Hey everybody, I been MIA for a while, had to move. I'm in upstate NY now and have to set up my tanks in the garage. Will it be too cold in winter it drops below freezing and garage has no temp control?? The 220g is ready to go but is it too cold, got two 300 amp heaters but will it be too cold. What issues would I come across any advice with experience is appreciated. I'm using my phone cause I can't wait for internet hook up next week. So if I don't respond right away I'm still hooked on fish keeping just need info like would a native tank be best set up etc thanks...

Upstate New York Gets colder then a witches titty. My fam lives up there. I dont think it's a good idea. Then again, I've never had tanks up there. I live in Florida. Speaking of, wtf are you doing moving from Hawaii to Upstate New York?!....

cover the tank with a nice thick blanket or two so that it if fully covered, it will stay warm. if needed add another heater but i think it will be fine. if you want to view the fish just flip up the blanket.

Camshaftramrod I had to move due to military which also covers electricity, I guess my issue is would the half inch glass be ok. Going to go native tank hopefully so fish should be ok with low temps I think.... still need computer to do more research than from phone. Thanks for replies anyone from watertown area or canada with a garge tank?

I think you mean 300w, not 330amp. Yeah, heaters are gonna run 24/7 all winter up there. Not sure there is any way around it. You can insulate the tanks in hopes of reducing that a bit, but I think you're gonna be stuck with tanks that dip a bit cooler in the winter.

I would think keeping the tank warm in winter will be the easy part . . . how are you going to keep it cool in the summer? even upstate NY can get pretty warm, and the garage will hold in the heat . . .

Get some hard foam insulation from the hardware store. Cut it to the size of the tank including the bottom and top. If you insulate it well you should be able to keep the tank temps fine with those heaters.

Thanks for the replies... I went out today and got water heater insulation, I'm actually set up right now with 50 feeders lol I hate this hobby so addicted anyway I'm wrapping the tank in insulation and 2262 in pipe insulation as well yeah the summer is going to be an issue but I figure crack the main door and set up a fan?? Set up should work just trying to make it easy to remove for summer I will post pics weds or so after I get computer set up...
