If those were the fish in that pic though who would want to risk smuggling what looks like banjar reds...
Its write file photo in 2009, maybe its not the fish, but $2000 for 8 fish probably not red arowana. They also not tell the detail of fish, only asian arowana which they have some variety like super red, crossback, etc.

I wish someone in power was into fish keeping so we could lift this ancient, pointless ban. The farms would make a killing if they sold to the US market.

I thought Koi had potential to be most expensive, albiet pond?

Banjar or not, I would buy. If it was legal of course....

Yes, some koi are definitely worth multiple times more than any Arowana.

are arowana banned on a federal level because they are "indangered"

I don't know much about arowanas other than that get way to big for me to keep.

There's more than enough supply at the hobbyist level to meet the demand here, prices will come down but remember they are still not cheap so your average fish keeper will still not be willing to spend on one.

The farms would go out of business. How's that you ask? Because the "farms" would soon be mostly USA based, and world-wide the prices for Asian aros would plummet. Asian aros are only expensive due to how they are currently controlled and marketed.
