defense mechanism mebbe? or hormonal changes indicating whether it's happy or sad? mebbe like how a dog wags it's tail and our human face colour flushes when afraid or angry? hope i'm not wrong... and sorry if it is...
 
Just put an 6 inch "wild gar," in with 2 red peacocks, 2 lemons, 6 other mixed cichlids, a columbian shark, 3 loaches, and my sucker. They are all in a 75 gallon tank.

Has anyone had an experience like this, and if so, what can I expect?

it was just market shrimp, and he would turn all whit at night not showing any spots what so ever

then i got him on some hikari pellots and some ish fellets and blood worms and what not and he started to keep his spots at night
