Below the surface......
do you guys think this stuff would work and get my new aquired ray to eat prepared foods??

It takes nightcrawlers right now; but would like to incourage it to take market shrimps too. What do you guys think.

I guess that depends on if your rays like garlic, or not? ;)

While many fish food manufacturers do in fact use this ingredient strictly to enhance palatability of the food, more recent evidence proves that at certain levels garlic has much more to offer than just a flavour enhancer.

Over the past decade there has been a number of studies involving garlic and fish food and the anecdotal evidence with regards to feeding fish allicin complex (the active ingredient in garlic) to rid them of parasites appeared to be quite strong. The following is a link to a more recent study that confirms what some people have been saying all along.

In this particular study the inclusion of garlic powder at a rate of 3% was shown to increase the overall digestibilty of protein, carbohydrates, and fat (ie; better growth), as well as to lower the total bacteria count within the intestine, muscles, and water column.
