wonder who picked up the last one ?

Maybe rook45 got it? There was one smaller one there in an unmarked tank.

Eric they will pretty much become a garbage disposal, just like other Atractosteus are, once they settle in. Mine pretty much feed on everything and anything. They become very aggressive about food in an almost Gator gar like manner.

One thing I'd caution is not to feed them and then do any significant water change. This frequently upsets them and causes them to puke their food. (unfortunate lesson learned the hard way)..

Thanks for the tip :).

hey eric,

great collection of gars for sure, and congrats on picking up some Cubans. as richard said, they are great fish. if there is any way we can help out with advice on keeping them let us know...they are among the most challenging gar species, but once their sensitivities are accounted for, they are relatively simple to keep.

good that you already got them off live for the most part...and you may note that they generally aren't too keen on picking stuff off the bottom, so you may either want to make sure food is dropped right in front of their faces OR use a feeding stick. keeping them with the t-gars will probably encourage their feeding as well.

best of luck and keep us posted...oh yeah, great pics too!--

Thanks and I'll definitely consult with you guys.

Hey.. Quick question Eric.
One of your Trops is from the Shark Aquarium first import.... right? How big is that fish at this time?

Actually, three of them are. Two around 18-20" now. The third which came after the fact is about 16". From what I understand, it was a stubborn feeder when younger. The fourth one I have is from the last importation by H20. That one is around 6-7".

Ah OK thanks.. I knew some of them where from that shipment but forgot how many. Thanks for the update on that....

Sounds good Richard...FYI, I did have two more from that original shipment as well. One ended up breaking its back about 6 months ago and has since passed away. The other ended up passing for no apparent reason around 8 months ago. I do know the location of one more of them as well.

great gars e.... as nice as those pics were, it really doesnt do them any justice.
they are just thicker and bigger in person.
