Silly me. I understand now. I wasn't discounting Solomon saying that some were Shortnose. If he says they are then the id is confirmed on having at least one of possibly three different species in the group. Initially Solomon thought it was a group of Spotted/Longnose. Richard thought all Spotted (if I remember correctly). I thought they might need to put on a little more size before anyone had definitive id's.
On a side note, I have raised up some Longnose gar that had far longer snouts in proportion to their bodies than any of these gar. I vaguely remember reading something about different situations in captivity or in the wild making their snouts grow differently??? My very humble initial opinion is that none of their snouts are long enough to be Longnose gar.
