gars and pbass

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have mine together but its the other way around for me, my gar is about 8" larger then my bass. I don't see it being a problem tho as long as your bass are well fed and theres more then enough room for them to all get along.

Thats plenty, gar grow fast as well so he will catch up to them real fast.
Just one bass?

Yeah he shouldn't have a problem. Your soft shell never goes after them. Mine will go after small guys but I just have native fish in with him.

no 2 monos, 1 tsn, 1 tiger oscar, 1 softshell turtle, 1 ck, 2 albino channel cats, 1 silver aro, 1 pleco

Based on your stock, I'm going to say that this combination will fail because of most of your stock is incompatible with a gar:

  • Monos and oscar
    • Cichlids and gars generally don't mix well especially if they are aggressive cichlids as these two species can be.
  • TSN and channel cats
    • These catfish will outgrow the gar very quickly and will probably try to eat it (especially the TSN).
  • Silver arowana
    • Arowanas and gars usually do not mix will since both fish can spook easily resulting in injury and/or death to both fishes. Gars also do not get along very well with shiny silver fish.
  • Pleco
    • Plecos may suck on the gar's slime coat which will allow for the gar to get an infection that will more than likely prove to be fatal.
As for the CK and turtle, I don't know what to tell you. If the turtle doesn't bother the current fishes, then I don't see why not. I'm not too sure on the CK.

Now then, many people will say, "O, one or more of those combinations worked for me," and other stuff. Please remember that these are exceptions to the rule(s) rather than norms.

EDIT: Crap, I must be tired from work today, and I missed the most important reason why this will not work: TRUE GARS ARE ILLEGAL TO OWN IN CALIFORNIA!!! They are illegal despite the fact that many LFS's there defy the law and still have them for sale. Please remember that important piece of information. :D

lol wiggles you crack me up very nice well aro is currently up for sale pleco hasnt sucked anyone the tsn is a slow grower wayyyyy slow it seems from the norm and the bass and oscar are both un aggresive what so ever:p and did i say spotted gar... i meant false spotted gar thats not a gar at all lol O.o

generally agree...with the addition that turtles and gars are never really a good combination. turtles will in most cases chew up gars fins/tails...has happened countless times with FRTs and other aquatic/semi-aquatic turtles. the Croc III gars at Shedd Aquarium are another good example of this...and last i had seen they were STILL together with a bunch of map turtles!--
