Gars and Poly

peace be upon you guys,

I happened to walk into a LFS this particular day and they had this huge spotted gar swimming in a 6feet tank. I just realized how magnificent looking it is. I'm contemplating to buy one as an "accessory" to my polypterus tank. My polypterus are between 8-12cm. A del, sen, albino sen, endli congicus and 2 ornates.
I was wondering is it ok to keep together with my polypterus collection?
Will the gar "overgrow" faster than poly and attack them?
Anyone has experience keeping gars?

I had the combination previously, it was florida gars and few of my senegals in a 60 gallns tank, and they got long quiet well;
I didnt hv the ornate before, I heard ornate is a bit of teritorial among bichirs; have a look at this forum tread, I am sure you find more info

just came back from lfs. brought back a lap instead. put him in my 2feet tank and saw how skinny he was. hope he gets adjusted soon. still thinking of a juvenile gar though. sigh.

my gar is 13" doesnt attack my 6" bichirs gars usually leave bichirs alone

it would be ok. But I suggest you don't put the lap in a 2 foot tank even if in is temporary.

i got 2 spotted with my 2 ornates. no problems at all.
