Gars Jumping?

How are gars on jumping? Im just curious more than anything, as the little information there is on this is contradictory. Would a cover be needed if there was a 10 inch wall above the surface and there was plenty of room/volume (pond day-dreaming).

Yes, always better to cover it - don't risk a fish.
 
Nops. They jump less, but they do jump because they are given to very strong energy bursts.. I have already picked one up, dry, on the floor.

Luck hqas it that their odds of surviving such an ordeal are better than aro's..

definitely very capable jumpers...and very strong fishes as well. keep a cover on any gar enclosure, and if they are larger fishes, be sure the cover is weighted or taped down--

Mine just jumped out of the tank on Friday when I was cleaning it. He just freaked out. He has never done this before. The top of my tank is 6ft off the ground too. He jumped, slid down a cutain, bouched off a chest and landed on the carpet! He seems ok, but he isn't eating much which has me worried.
