I'v seen large "needlenose" gars in TX in the wild. I was told by a guide they gather in large groups (not the typical 2-3) near the surface in early spring. a cuple weeks later they spawn near the bottom and the eggs are very sticky. (never seen this happen thou, just the large gatherings could have been a party)
It takes many years to reach maturity for the larger species. and the roe and fry are toxic to other animals.
How old is your florida g how big, you may have to just buy like 5 more and put them in a swiming pool. I hear live food in abundance can always provoke breeding (like liquor and people).
