gars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
theres one that is the smallest, and has more of a pattern than the rest.
the one with one eye, looks gold.
and the third one who chases my dats, his pattern is a little dull but he looks gold.

I'll take an amazing pic of each ( 3 pics ). and post them on here. so its easier and less confusing.

Hello all, Im new here and this is my first post...:) I've owned aggressive fish for the past 10 years now, but only stumbled upon gars about a month ago..I first bought one from my lfs and eventually ended up going back for the remaining two.. something about these armored fish that really intrigues me.. i put the first one in with my flowerhorn which usually beat the living crap out of every other fish i put in his tank.. but the poor guy just shrank when faced with the gars menacing stare. I've since moved my three gars to a bigger tank considering their size.. ANYWAY, when i bought these guys the lfs owner said they were needlenose which even i could see they are not, but as I've just recently came across this type of fish for the first time, i'm hoping i can get an ID from the pros in the game.. :D
low and behold...

welcome to MFK, but please do not derail some elses thread. start your own threat and ask your questions there.

btw...it is an alligator gar (Atractosteus Spatula).

hope you have big plans! by the end of his first year he will be close to 3'. they are also very aggressive due to their rapid growth. i would remove any tankmates. again, starting your own thread would be the best way to go.

great fish by the way.

 amazing pics would be a huge step up from what you've provided us so far! lol! j/k!

it would really help to have a good pic of each individual fish. try not to catch them at an angle. this can throw off the proportions of the fish making it tougher to identify. a nice broad side shot of the fish would be a great help.

Sorry for hogging your thread Milkman, nice fish btw...:) Im new to this thing so bare with me pls... Thanks for the id demjor, they are definatly growing fast.. one seems to be the badass of the bunch, he is broader and just last night I saw him bite his buddies nose.. i mean he even tore through the net when i was moving him into my 600 gallon. I occasionally feed them gecos and feeder fish but they mostly dine on shrimps. Thanks for the advice, I'll start moving the other fish out before they make meals out of them too.. already lost a giant clown knife.. :irked: and im sure its the big fella who did it.

600g tank was good for 3 alligtr gar , maybe the tank can hold for them 2 years ???

Nice Gar's.
