With summer coming you have time to experiment, I would definitely look at varying the fish and getting him used to prekilled so you can use the frozen/thawed stuff in the winter rather than going back to just goldfish. If he gets used to prekilled you might even be able to get him taking cut fish and things like that, might make it more convenient.
