I've kept them, they stop musking pretty quickly and tame easy, I fed mine baby sunfish and earthworms. K krichardson dekay's brown snakes do poorly in captivity, however water snakes are easily kept, care is similar to most turtles except diet, as a matter of fact water snakes can be kept with map and razorback musk turtles, I often store them with baby turtles, water snakes also tame easy which is surprising given how much they bite when u grab a wild one.

Wholeheartedly agreed as I can recall having Dekays as a kid and most of them not eating any of the known foods that I gave them.I pretty much wound up losing interest and tossing them back in the yard....and the water snakes are very violent when first caught.I didn't bother bringing any home and attempting to keep any as a result.
