That looks more flat than a ball though.

Lol, that's because it's more like a ball pit! Each female can have over a dozen males wrapped around her trying to be the first to breed with her. There are scattered areas with dens like this all over the U.S. and Canada. Most are kept hidden from fear of people going to these areas to either illegally catch them or kill them. But these pics might be snakes coming out of hibernation.

Get something really nice that you can breed. Put a pair in one tub then the first clutch in on tub and grow them and sell them. I think it would be really cool. My LPS had a breeding pair of garters that produced a couple clutches and then the female ate the male...:irked:And all she will eat is rosy reds or snakes...:( .I guess its up to you but my personal preference would be something a little more exotic that you could hold.

I've kept them from time to time over the years. I fed mine earthworms, slugs, snails, small toads & frogs, and fathead minnows. I never had any luck when I offered them insects. Oh, and they realy LOVE big juicy nightcrawlers.

Same here. Mine were very healthy but inevitably ended up escaping. I wouldn't really choose to keep one again. They're too high strung and though they will tolerate handling they never seem to soak it up like constricters can. They also poop a lot more because of what they eat, which is kind of annoying, lol.
Very easy to care for and keep snake but not necessarily the most interactive.

Here is my personal record with a garter
She was about 3.5 ft
