Gash on my charax!! gill plate to chin ripped. HELP

i would put him in a qt tank and dose with melafix and/or salt depending on gallons

i got a 5 gal quarantine tank... would that suffice?

im just so strung right now... i spent so long tryna find these guys, i pick up 5 for a C note and this happends to one of em 3 days later... should i cut off the excess gill or just let it hang????
 
let it hang. depending on his size the five may stress him out how big is the fish
 
all are around 4-3.5" and are shoaling characins.

so i dno if putting him by himself would either stress or comfort it. but if it works then i have to try.
 
go ahead and try but observe and see how he acts for like five minutes
 
i haven't done it yet, my 5gal is still running its cycle. but every inhabitant in the 30gal they're in seem to be leaving him alone. hes swimming with the shoal like normal its just that theres a gash...

EDIT: k i moved him.. he doesn't seem very happy but i'll let him sit for 5.
 
i think you can dose the 30 with melafix if you got it it wouldn't hurt you know
 
he doesn't like it... lol hes darting and ruining himself more so i dropped him back again.
