Hello there I'm new to the forum and new to fish keeping as well. I was researching some aggressive fish to keep and I originally fell in love with the snakehead but due to some obvious legality issues I had to make another choice on fish to keep. I found a fellow hobbyist that was selling his 6" GATF and I fell in love. :D I've had him for about a week now and I joined MFK to enjoy some shared knowledge and love for these amazing creatures. Anyways, any helpful tips for keeping my GATF would be appreciated. Thanks! View attachment 792455View attachment 792456View attachment 792457

Mind over matter... I don't mind, so it don't matter.

Welcome to the forum, I normally don't recommend or like to hear people keep goliath tigers but since you have one I recommend clean water, lots of decorations such as plants (real or fake) around the perimeter with an open center, lots of current, and that you prepare a very large tank (at the very least 1000-3000 gallons, preferably much larger) for when this little guy gets bigger.

Not sure I could provide any truly helpful info, but welcome and best of luck. That's one of my dream fish you have there. I look forward to pics as he grows up. Have you named him yet?

current is a must, and i'd get him eating, he does look very thin .... be careful of sharp decorations, they are extremely skittish and fast, and will injure/kill themselves by slamming into things ... i have 3 and were very easy to get eating frozen silversides, and as they got larger smelt ... my biggest mistake with them was not having enough current in my tank, which lead to slime coat issues, but when i added current they recovered great ... they are hardy as far as recovering from injury, but i'd keep the tank very clean, and leave open space for him ... lastly, did i mention strong current? And i'd agree, a very large tank is def in your future if you want him to stay healthy and grow to max size ... at 6 inches 75 gallon would be ok for a bit, but i'd say a long tank thats at least 2 times as wide as he is long should be the minimum. Welcome to MFK! and good luck with your GATF, i LOVE them as well ... very difficult to keep though, and to find fish that go well with them because they grow very slowly and are so skittish

i'm more talking about when you reach your hands in, or a hose to do a waterchange, but they do get better with time. I'm finally able to do a waterchange, after more than a year, without them bashing into the side trying to get away
