mine are the same way, completely ignore live now when i'm forced to throw them in to get a new fish eating or for some other reason, they only eat smelt and silversides now ... next step is getting them and everyone else on massivore pellets ... so glad he ate finally, so much more likely to survive once a fish eats in a new tank ... congrats

What's wrong with silversides? If you have to give them pellets just gut load them.

i agree silversides are fine, and i do gutload occasionally, but i think pellets are more nutrient packed per size, and generally easier to keep (i dont have to listen to my fiance ***** about my fridge smelling like fish) and i believe to be cheaper and in general i'd like to make them eat a variety of foods. so the more diff foods i get them to eat the better

OK, well he has totally gotten over the anxiety of a new tank. :-) he ate 3 gf, and 3 roseys and now has a nice sized bulge in his belly :-) thanks for all the awesome info.

Nice!

Oh man. 8 feeders in 24 hours and he's still going after them. Now I'm afraid he's going to eat too much and explode :-)

Mine only eats hikari jumbo sticks. Water temp is 84 with a nice current and lots of swimming space. Size is 13"-14" inches.

i'd say i wouldnt hit the panic button yet, they are finicky ... most predators can go a while without eating, but he is thin so you def want him eating soon ... There is a possibility his teeth are coming out and new ones are coming in, and they are less likely to eat during that time, however that usually only takes 2-3 days ... i'd stick with live to get some food in his belly, and if he's chasing thats a great sign cause it means he knows what to do, and the instinct is there so i'd say its just a matter of time. I'd possibly try roseys, since they are smaller, and sometimes if feeders are in the tank too long, they may be looked at as tankmattes rather than food so i'd drop 1 rosey in tonight and see what happens

How often do they regenerate teeth? I came home from work today and he's all snaggle toothed. uploadfromtaptalk1340404183599.jpg he is still a little thin looking but he has been eating a LOT. Also, if I try to feed him during this time can he hurt himself trying to eat or maybe it will help with the process? I have a small cichlid in there with him and he's chasing the cichlid so I'm thinking he would take some gut loaded minnows if I put them in there. Anyways, any info about this cycle will help a lot. Thanks! :)

thats a good thing, dont worry ... those teeth will fall out, and in a couple days the new ones will come in. Whole process takes 2-3 days. They are less likely to eat during this time, but mine have eaten before with there teeth falling out, and have never had any problems. Mine shed their teeth about once a month. I say its a good thing because it indicates that the fish is growing
