Don't worry if he's already nibbling he can taste it. I'm sure once he gets over the texture and hungry enough he will swallow it. Just be prepared once he does start eating they don't like to change. He will like anything else.
Thanks. That gives me hope. That is why I have been breaking up pieces of the jumbo carnisticks so he will be able to eat the same thing. I am willing to feed him as much as he can eat, I just wish he would eat.

Day 15: Not even a nibble today. Thank God at least he is still swimming around normally. Nitrate: Almost 0; Nitrite: 0; Ammonia: 0; Temp: 83.1 F. High flow with Koralia and two air stones. How frustrating.

Any teacher fish? Im guessing no because if there were other fish in there they would be in his belly by now. lol
Don't worry too much. My GATF didn't eat for 3 weeks and he just started eating a little today. They do go for periods without eating especially when teething.
Thanks for the reply. I actually have 3 tinfoil barbs with him that don't really seem to teach him anything because they seem to wait until the floating sticks hit the ground and eat off the ground. They have eased his anxiety though since he swims around with them. I am glad he hasn't killed them and I am hoping he will eat his hikari floating jumbo carnisticks (pieces of it since they are too big now) before he feels the need to. I would like to put my tinfoil barbs in my SA/CA tank once they grow big enough not to be eaten by my 2 Peacock bass.
I really appreciate the advice etc. because the GATF has been my dream fish and now he's not eating pellets for me.

Ok, you just have to go through the process of breaking him. It's not pleasant and a little nerve racking if it's your first time. I think as long as the water parameters are good he will eat. I've noticed in the past when the water was a little old my VATF wouldn't eat as much but as soon as I did the weekly water change his appetite kicked up.
BTW, I never thought of the teething part. It almost looks like he has grown some additional tiny teeth and he keeps doing that chomping thing they do. Maybe that is part of the issue too. Won't really feel like eating if your mouth hurts.

I don't know if you want to feed him freeze dried jumbo krill but my GATF transition quit easily from feeders to the krill. I only gave him minows that were the same color as the krill, after that he actually ate pellets. It took me 3 days from feeder to minnows and 2 months to pellets. Good luck.
