jaws looks alittle short to be a goliath. looks like a vat but the stripes are alittle faded to tell. even If its a vat its a awesome deal and I think you would rather get a vat than goliath anyways I think, there alot more active and easyer to fined a tank that fits them. like I said I could be wrong and its hard to tell but if your lucky you might of came acrossed a bev witch is vary rare, its like a dwarf goliath.

but even if its a vat you still made out, nice pick up!

Not a Goliath for sure. Try to get some clearer pics, it's hard to say what it is from the ones you posted. Based on structure, I'm almost inclined to call that thing an H. tanzaniae; it looks a lot like mine in structure. A key diagnostic to identify a tatf is the adipose fin is a dark steel blue color in sufficient lighting, especially when put over a dark substrate, your pics are too dark to tell. Turns out that tanzaniae has been brought it for quite some time as "miscellaneous tiger fish", just no one identified it conclusively until me.

If you can, get a count of the rays in the anal fin and a count of the lateral line scales. If you can do that, we can ID it for sure.

yes, I agree, big eye, or tazaniae in my opinion too

Wes, how long do you suppose people not in the know have simply been calling these vittatus? I know if not for the homework I've done over the past month I probably would have called it vatf, too.
