This video is not only informative but also thought provoking. Did you see how the gar checked out the finger before it striked? It was exactly the way how a gar checks out a pellet before it hits it. I thought a gar used the sense of smell to decide whether something was edible, but it didn't seem a finger would smell like food to the gar. If the gar was using its vision to check out the finger, then didn't the gar see the finger was attached to something much bigger than it was. A gar probably has the perception of size otherwise this species could not have survived millions of years. Why the gar mistook a finger for food is still a mystery to me.
