calm as a clam:) was just pondering how one could find this informative.

This video is not only informative but also thought provoking. Did you see how the gar checked out the finger before it striked? It was exactly the way how a gar checks out a pellet before it hits it. I thought a gar used the sense of smell to decide whether something was edible, but it didn't seem a finger would smell like food to the gar. If the gar was using its vision to check out the finger, then didn't the gar see the finger was attached to something much bigger than it was. A gar probably has the perception of size otherwise this species could not have survived millions of years. Why the gar mistook a finger for food is still a mystery to me. :grinno:

honestly this is called stupidity to the point of absurdity...

as i stated before, pointless, asinine thing to do really...

i think to do somthing brave, you either need great courage or minimal cognitive abilities, don't think it's that hard to say where this falls into.

thought we were trying for a informative, progressive and intelligent community here...;)

honestly, the gar is not striking out at a "human being". it is essentially striking out at the tip of his finger, which is roughly the same size as a feeder..if we've seen that once we've seen it a thousand times...how that is informative, really depends on an individuals mind. i think we have learnt much about the universe from calculations...how about teaching kids about the effects off an atom bomb by blowing them up. if your last statement is true, i am honestly just very sorry for you...

I'm out of feeders so I made a dummy on my finger.haha
I'm planning to test again its bite force after a year.haha
so, what was the bite force? hope you remember it, to compare to next year's test result. make sure you draw the feeder facsimile exactly right, too. :screwy:

exactly!:)

I've been wanting to teach my gar to eat from my hand, but I haven't been brave enough. I also wondered how much bite force it would have. Franxzm, next time you're in Texas could I get you to hand feed my gar, and maybe paint your arm like a carp and test its bite force for me?
