I have a Florida Gar and am hoping to get a Gator Gar.... I wonder if the Gator Gar can be a good tank mate of my Florida Gar? I plan to get a Gator which is a little smaller 6" then the Florida 7". I have seen quite a few tank photos with Gar mixtures.. i would just like to be sure, so that my Florida is safe and happy.

I had a florida gar started off bigger that the gartor gar by a few inches and in five months time, it was eaten by the gartor gar. Gartor gar seems very docile in winter when the temperature is low and can get along with almost any fish (even feeders!) very well. Don't trust it. When the temperature rises up to about 80F, it will turn into a monster and become very aggressive. Every fish smaller than it will be gone.

Certainly no gator gar for me.. although i get tempted every time i see it at the LFS, but i know i can only house it for a short time. :(

I am now thinking about aro as my gar's tankmate. :D

tank mates: datnoids or p-bass.

bad muffin!!
dont know about dats but pbass are not good tank mats for gar. niether are aros

I am sooooooo tempted to get an aro but the prices are prohibitive. A decent one can easily be the price of a 180 gallon tank with the kitchen sink thrown in. And i can imagine the stress to keep the fish healthy and happy.
