GE silicone

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The stuff you want to avoid will still say %100 silicone but elsewhere on the label it will say something about anti-mold, or mildewacide, or something close to that.

Look for GE 100% silicone I or II. The main difference between 1 and 2 is that 2 is stronger but takes longer to fully cure. I used 2 and it did take a few days to cure but I don't know how long 1 would have taken. I've also heard that the vapors from 2 is less toxic but I'm not sure if this is correct.

what makes the bio seal unsafe for fish?

never mind i answered my own question

I use window and door GE silicone 2.

This question pops up all the time, we really need a sticky about fish-safe silicone.

$4 at home depot.. also available at ACE.. i havent looked anywhere else but im sure other places must carry it..

GE silicone I uses Acetic acid (Vinegar) to cure and GE silicone II uses Ammonia. This isn't the whole reason why for the switch but people were burning their noses, lungs and throats out and not knowing it because the smell of vinegar is tolerable so they would continue to work with it in inadequately ventilated areas so the switch to ammonia makes this near impossible to do since the smell and the reaction your body makes to ammonia will force you to leave the room.
